Course Descriptions

Grades 1-3

French 101

Grades 1-3

No passports required to travel around the Francophone World learning vocabulary, history, and French traditions! Students will sample French life as they dive into learning the basics of the French language, French foods, and historical French architecture.

Allons-y!

Mathed Potatoes

Grades 1-3

Cooking is all about necessity, enjoyment, and shared time, but it’s also a great academic tool! Girls will explore healthy, kid-friendly cuisine coupled with mathematics basics from sequencing to fractions. They will learn to read, follow, and even create their own recipes while using many measuring methods to cook with precision and ease. Bring your appetite for learning!

Morning Zen

Grades 1-3

Mindfulness is the focus on the present moment. Research shows that it can make us better students, friends, and family members. This course will explore techniques for being mindful in our everyday lives. Girls will learn meditation practices, physical activities (yoga, meditation walking, etc), and other strategies that can help to focus and relax. Every day, girls will create a different craft that will support this practice, including glitter jars, thinking putty, stress balls, journals, collage, coloring, intention jars, and dream boxes. We will also explore parts of the brain and work to understand how mindfulness supports efficient brain function.

Imagination Stage

Grades 1-3

Anything can happen on stage in this class designed to empower young girls to discover their voices in the spotlight. An introduction to singing, dancing, and acting (including improvisation) on stage is at the heart of this class. Girls will prepare for a showcase for families and friends at the end of the week.

Coding

Grades 1-3

Girls will learn at their own pace and work on their writing, visual art, and critical-thinking skills in this course to produce ongoing and online stories that they can continue to build as they learn more. At the end of the course, girls can e-publish their work to share with family and friends online.

Petite Artists

Grades 1-3

From Cassatt to Kahlo, young artists will be introduced to female artists who played pivotal roles in the history of art. Inspired by their work, the girls’ own self-expression will be guided in the instruction of watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media. Students will learn how to stretch their own canvases, focus on application techniques, and create masterpieces of their own to take home at the end of the week.

NEW: Dr. Suess Story Creation

Grades 1-3

Dr. Seuss is one of the greatest children’s poetry that has inspired generations of adults and kids. Girls will study this great through close reading and learn to create poetry of their own. After reading and writing, girls will turn their literary works of art into poem-inspired paintings worthy of any gallery.

Spa-Tastic Science

Grades 1-3

It’s Spa Day every day in this class! From lip gloss and sugar scrubs to perfumed soaps and face masks, girls will learn how to use simple, natural ingredients to pamper their youthful skin. The class will explore the chemistry of the everyday products we use and what could go wrong when the chemistry is off. Girls will also have the opportunity to share their creations with others by designing packaging and marketing plans for their favorite spa products. Free samples, please!

Building Bridges

Grades 1-3

What is a bridge? Girls will begin to answer this question by exploring the history and major styles of bridges. Building arch, beam, and suspension bridges using K’Nex will direct our first steps as engineers. Stepping beyond K’nex kits, campers will become architects as we design and build our own bridges with design, budgeting for the project, and testing their ability to withstand load and pressure at key points.

Global Travel with American Girl Dolls

Grades 1-3

Travel the world with different American Girl dolls. Each day the class will focus on a different doll, where campers will learn about the history and the culture of the time periods each doll originated from. The class will experience everything from a day in the Victorian age with Samantha to life on the island of Hawaii with Nanea. Campers are encouraged to bring their own dolls to class, as they can take part in activities and lessons throughout the course. Campers don’t have to have an American Girl doll to participate!

NEW: Crafting Class
