What’s New in Science?

As we begin our 20th year, AGS Science Department has settled into our fabulous new lab spaces and has launched new classes and opportunities for our emerging scientists. One exciting change to note is that Dr. Suzy Beckham will be the Science Department chair and Ms. Melissa Hankinson is looking forward to returning to the classroom full time.

This year the science department has launched two new elective courses. Organic Chemistry will provide our upper school STEM students with a strong foundation for college courses in healthcare and natural science degree programs. Astronomy will provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to apply skills from prior chemistry and physics coursework, while also indulging their curiosity about the cosmos.

We are also adding an upper school robotics team that will compete in FIRST Tech Challenge. Interested students should contact Ms. Lisa Rios, no previous experience is required.

Lastly, Science and Engineering Fair is back! It will be its own event on Friday December 6th from 9 – 12 to ensure that our students are able to move on to Regional and State Science Fair competitions.
