Slam Poets to Visit AGS

Celebrate poetry month with poetry slam artists during Office Hours on April 24th and April 25th! Hosted by the Horizon Center.  

 

Theresa Davis is an author and performance poet residing in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the mother of three brilliant humans Imani, Tia, and Zion, who are a constant source of inspiration and pride. An educator for more than 20 years, Davis now combines her teaching and writing styles to teach poetry workshops for teens and adults. A veteran slam poet, she held the title of Women of the World Slam Champion in 2011. Drowned: A Mermaid’s Manifesto, her second book of poetry with Sibling Rivalry Press, was voted as one of 2017 Books All Georgians Should Read. In 2016, Creative Loafing voted her Best Local Poet and Best Spoken Word Artist.

Ashlee Haze is a poet and spoken word artist from Atlanta by way of Chicago. Earning the nickname “Big 30″ because of her consistency in getting a perfect score, she is one of the most accomplished poets in the sport of poetry slam. She has been a part of the Atlanta Poetry circuit for over a decade and has been writing over 15 years. Ashlee Haze was the most booked artist at the 2017 NACA Nationals Conference, and she recently completed a 100+ city college tour. She is a 2-time Women of the World Poetry Slam Finalist. Ashlee began writing at age 10, performing her first piece at a church mother/daughter banquet. After that, writing became something she did almost daily. By age 15 she was regularly performing at public competitions and events. In 2006, she was the Grand Prize Winner of V-103’s “Got Word” Youth Poetry Slam and has participated in the art/sport ever since. Her senior year of high school she was co-president of South Gwinnett High’s Writers’ Society Club and had been published in three national publications. In August 2009, she made her first trip to the National Poetry Slam in which Java Monkey placed 5th in the nation. Ashlee Haze holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Georgia State University. As of September 2016, she is a full time poet and artist.

Singer, poet, visual artist and producer, S.O.N.G.B.I.R.D. has travelled the world sharing her gift, and she is presently growing her artist development and consultant company B.I.R.D. Media Enterprises. Theresa has appeared on Season 3 of Verses and Flow on TVOne, performed alongside the incomparable Miss Jill Scott, and most recently opened for Jasmine Sullivan.
