Senior Jenny Russ Named National Merit Finalist

Atlanta Girls’ School senior Jenny Russ has been recognized as a National Merit Finalist.

Jenny earned this recognition with an outstanding performance on the PSAT she took as a junior. Her score ranks among the highest in the country, for which there are about 15,000 finalists nationwide representing less than 1 percent of the students who took the exam.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Program’s press release, “These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth about $35 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title. National Merit Scholarship winners of 2016 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.”
