English 9 Character Study Hat Project

Every freshman at AGS looks forward to this US traditions – “The Secret Life of Bees” Hat Project. Students select one character to study closely from the novel “The Secret Life of Bees,” that they read over the summer. As they read the novel, they are asked to keep this character in mind with the future purpose of creating a hat to express the character’s special traits.

The annual project culminates in a tea party where students wear their hats to class to present their characters and designs. Each student is asked to consider the following in her hat design:

Name of character | Color that is expressive of character Texture expressive of character | 3 quotes that reveal the character | 3 adjectives that capture the character’s personality
