AGS Students Raising Money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Sophomores Libby and Ellie are working to raise $40,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We love seeing your students passionate about others and continuing to serve throughout the year.  See their letter to the community below.

Hello,

We are so excited to say that the first week of our fundraising campaign benefiting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is underway! We are working hard towards reaching our goal of $40,000. We would like to give a big thanks to everyone who has had the chance to donate! We’ve been touched by the numerous connections that people have with blood cancer. Our thoughts are with those who have lost or are fighting for a loved one. These stories have given us even more inspiration as we continue our campaign. It is proof that we must find a cure.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or LLS, is an amazing organization, so we’d like to tell you a little bit more about where your money is going. The mission of LLS is to ensure the best available treatment for all blood cancer patients. More than $1 billion have been invested in blood cancer research since its inception 67 years ago. Also since its beginning, five-year survival rates for blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. Though LLS’s mission is geared towards blood cancer, it also indirectly brings in advancements for other types of cancer. Many therapies originally developed for blood cancer, such as radiation, chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, were extended for use in the general cancer arena.

In addition to cancer research, LLS also provides free information and support services to patients, family members, and caretakers, and advocates nationally and locally for legislation that will improve the quality of life for patients and their families. In 2015, the Georgia chapter provided 583 patients with Co-Pay Assistance, totaling to $1,179,951.84. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society truly cares about the cause they fight for. They take their motto “Someday is Today” to its fullest meaning and dedicate everything in their power to finding the cure.

Please support our campaign benefiting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by making a donation today! All donations, regardless of size, make a difference for LLS. Visit our link and click donate today to make your tax deductible donation. Don’t forget to check if your company matches donations!

 Lots of Love,
Ellie Munson & Libby Mitchell
