Ryan Griffin ‘16

Ryan Griffin is a January 2015 Hurricane of the Month.

Ryan Griffin is a junior captain of the swim team that brings serious swimming talent and amazing leadership to the AGS team. Her natural swimming grace and ability earned her a 10th place finish at the State Meet in 50 free, 9th in 100 breast, and she participated in relay teams that finished 5th in medley and 7th in free relay.

Coach Cat Stansbury said that Ryan’s leadership this season was incredible. “She helped in every way possible–coaching at middle school meets, working with swimmers at practices, always supporting coaches, mentoring, motivating, and encouraging teammates.”

Ryan is a three-season athlete at AGS, and she credits the ability to play sports at AGS for rounding out her experience on campus.“Playing sports allows me to make friends, create fun memories with girls I normally don’t get the chance to hang out with all while getting fit at the same time. By running on the Varsity cross-country team in the fall, swimming in the winter, and playing soccer in the spring, I am able to connect with most of the girls at school both in high school and middle school.”

Ryan also feels that swimming allows middle and upper school athletes to bond as teammates. “Upper school swimmers get to work side-by-side with the middle school swimmers–6th graders will swim in the same lane as a senior. Varsity athletes, like myself, who choose to take on leadership roles can take on bigger responsibilities such as working as an “assistant coach” at middle school swim meets which gives us the opportunity to encourage and give pointers to the girls as they transition into this new sport. It’s been a great season full of personal records and much growth.”
