Varsity Tennis – Emma Kate Sellers, Karina Tang, and Ally Render are April 2016 Hurricanes of the Month.
Emma Kate is a 10th grader who has played tennis off and on since she was very young, and has played for AGS since the 6th grade. Karina is a 12th grader and has been playing tennis since the 7th grade. They played doubles on the AGS varsity tennis team this year. Coach Clayton is very proud of all these two have accomplished together. About the duo, Coach Clayton said, “Emma Kate and Karina also won third place in doubles at the Region Tournament. They qualified for State, and although they lost their match against the 2nd place finisher from Region 3, they were classy on the court and represented AGS well.“ When speaking with the girls about why they enjoy tennis Emma Kate said, “I love playing tennis because it requires a lot of skill and thinking, but it is still really fun! I also enjoy how it’s an individual and team sport.” Karina said, “I like tennis because I really enjoy the feeling of hitting the balls. I always play doubles in tennis because I really like the way to work as a team.”
Ally is a 11th grader who has been playing tennis for many years. Coach Clayton said, “Ally played #1 singles for the Varsity tennis team throughout the season. She placed 3rd in the Region Tournament and qualified for Individual State. While she lost her match against the 2nd place finishers from Region 3 in the state tournament, she represented AGS well.” Ally works very hard at every practice and match. She truly gives it her all. Keep up the hard work, and congratulations on being April’s Hurricanes of the Month, varsity tennis players!
