Students ‘Kode with Klossy’ at Spanx HQ
Twenty-one AGS students participated in a Kode with Klossy three-day coding workshop, hosted at Spanx headquarters in Atlanta. At the workshop, students learned the basics of Javascript and P5 while creating dynamic web apps – like interactive art and animated games. Started in 2014 by Karlie Kloss, Kode with Klossy was founded to empower girls to learn to code and become leaders in tech. Our girls were lucky on day one of the event to meet and speak with both Karlie Kloss and Spanx founder Sara Blakely. Click here for more information about Kode with Klossy.
This workshop continues the long history of partnership between AGS and The Sara Blakely Foundation. Last spring, the Sara Blakely Foundation was the lead sponsor of SPLASH! Atlanta Girls’ School Auction 2017. In 2010, the foundation donated $100,000 to AGS in support of the founding and development of the school’s Entrepreneurship and Economics course. In this Upper School course, students study the ins and outs of starting a business, culminating in the creation of a business plan centered around an invention or an idea and the opportunity to compete for venture capital to continue research and development of their business plans. In 2005, Sara Blakely was the keynote speaker at the AGS Celebration of Girls’ Education (COGE) event, which has now become the school’s annual auction. Sara Blakely has also visited the AGS campus on various occasions throughout the years, speaking to the students in the Entrepreneurship and Economics course and as an all-school assembly guest speaker.
