AGS is growing!
The renderings below from architectural partner BDR show the enhancement projects expected to be completed by the start of school in August 2018.
Phase I of improvements includes the following priority projects:
New Modular STEAM Classrooms: To address the growing needs of our school, Science Department, and interdisciplinary work, we will add four new modular STEAM classrooms to be located at the southern edge of the backfield and connected to the lower level patio entrance by a new walkway. The Science Department and STEAM Interdisciplinary Specialist have worked closely with the planners and architects to design the ideal classrooms for our students, teachers, and curriculum. The center will also include two restrooms, a covered porch to overlook the field, and flexible furnishings. The two existing modular science labs, located adjacent to faculty/staff parking, will be removed.
Updated and Accessible Entry Experience: To accommodate all community members and AGS visitors, AGS will relocate its main entrance to an accessible ramp. The new entry space will include an updated reception area, offices, and an updated conference room space (currently the Presentation Room). AGS will also have the capacity in this space to display new signage, an admission waiting area, and updated landscaping outside doors. At the former entrance, a wall will be constructed in front of the columns, though students will still use this covered area for carpool after school.
Expanded Middle School Dining Room: To accommodate growing enrollment in the Middle School, the current upstairs dining room will be expanded to include the square footage provided by the adjacent classroom, room 222. The entire space—flooring, lighting, decor, furniture—will be updated, and the design will also allow for a portion of the room to be partitioned into a smaller meeting or classroom space when not in use for dining. We will continue our partnership with Campus Cuisine for lunch.
Expanded Upper School Commons: To accommodate the entire Upper School in a dedicated lunch dining space, the current Upper School Student Center will be expanded into the adjacent two classrooms to create an Upper School Commons space. The entire new space—flooring, lighting, decor, furniture—will be renovated. The Upper School Commons will function as a Student Center and common area when not in use for lunch, and the design will also allow for the room to be partitioned into smaller multi-use rooms as needed. The Upper School kitchen area will also receive an update.
